The Global Competency Framework

The Global Competency Framework was developed through a systematic review and extensive stakeholder engagement. The resultant framework was then submitted to a wide variety of users for testing and refining in a cyclical manner over three years. Each round of feedback informed the next iteration of the framework until we arrived at the following four domains, each containing six different elements:

  • Digital, Media and Information Literacy
  • Global Citizenship and Intercultural Understanding
  • Social Awareness, Personal Attributes and Communication Skills
  • Professional and Learning Competencies

Defining Global Competency

The concept of Global Competency is relatively new, however the OECD have now provided a definition which we subscribe to. It is as follows:

“Global competence is the capacity to examine local, global and intercultural issues, to understand and appreciate the perspectives and world views of others, to engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions with people from different cultures, and to act for collective well-being and sustainable development.” PISA (2018)
